To celebrate a decade since NikeCraft came into existence, with hits such as the Mars Yard 2.0 sneaker, contemporary artist Tom Sachs and the sportswear giant are teaming up once again, this time to create a ‘General Purpose Shoe (GPS)’ that can be used by everyday people for “every possible scenario.”

According to the company, the “ordinary shoe for extraordinary people” is meant to serve as a reminder that what matters is not what you do, but how you do it.

“I got involved with Nike in the beginning because we wanted to make a sculpture that everyone could wear. It’s a tool for everyday life; it’s democratic,” explains Sachs.

Considering how it’s a piece of art as well as a functional sneaker, the GPS features a unique shape with its perky upturned toe, but isn’t too outlandish to be worn for daily activities.

The footwear comes with a three-piece molded cup sole, signature donning straps, a microfiber collar, and ultra-breathable knit to ensure comfort, style, and durability whenever, wherever.

Fans of Nike’s sneakers can look forward to the GPS in multiple color schemes. First, its launch version—the Studio—will feature a gum rubber midsole, muted white upper, and blue donning straps, akin to the uniform colorway used by the Tom Sachs Studio team.

“It took a decade to make a shoe this simple, as simple as can be and no simpler. NikeCraft shuns innovation for its own sake, but embraces it as a necessity,” the designer muses.

“It took me years to best advantage the superpowers of scale and to deliver value while still reflecting the standards of my studio. A great collaboration is something that no partner could do without the order, and NikeCraft has always been a 50/50 collaboration,” he continues.

The NikeCraft GPS will be available online from June 10, 2022 at US$109.99.
