Volvo Cars is looking to utilize Epic Games’ Unreal Engine prowess to bring a completely new user experience to their users. With its next generation of cars, it is aiming to bring Unreal Engine’s photorealistic visualization to the car’s user interface. The automaker will be using Unreal Engine to bring maps, user interfaces, and a host of other features to life in its new cars.

Epic Games is most known for its widely popular game, Fortnite, and 3D graphics tool, Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine has been noted as the leading software for 3D creation.

This collaboration with Volvo will bring car engines and game engines together in a meeting of minds. Cars are a bit of an untapped market when it comes to gaming software collaborations. However, Epic Games understands the potential this market has. Vehicles carry a ton of computer software onboard and what better way to enhance the user experience than to have a gaming company, noted for their software and graphics to team up with a car company.

Volvo is also producing an in-house operating system, called Volvo.OS, that will speed up the release of new updates and fix bugs. The operating system—which will boast double the speed of its previous onboard systems—will be introduced to the company’s electric vehicle line, which will be introduced later this year. Volvo and Epic Games are also keeping the safety of the customers at the forefront of their innovations.

The future for Volvo's innovation is bright as they hope to involve Unreal Engine in the further development of their cars in other areas as well.
