Reno, Nevada Becomes First City To Move Its Building Records To The Blockchain

In a United States-first, the city of Reno, Nevada, has introduced the Biggest Little Blockchain, a city-run and resident-focused platform that will create a single ledger to document building records and transactions within the region. 

As per an official statement, the blockchain is unrelated to any cryptocurrency, and the online platform will be made available to the public and all relevant city departments by the end of the summer. 

The project aims to provide greater clarity and transparency to the general public, using blockchain technology as a way to create and store records that can never be lost or changed. 

“Citizens deserve transparency and accountability from their government, and this new pilot project empowers every Reno resident with easy access to information, and how fitting that we are starting with the historic buildings that are the heart and soul of our community,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. 

Going forward, the city envisions expanding the platform to include maintenance works, permits, and licensing.
