Speedo Rolls Out Eco Swimsuits Made From Recycled Yarn & Plastic

In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, Speedo has launched new swimsuits made of recycled yarn, plastic, and polyester. This makes its latest swimwear its most eco-friendly yet, Fashion United reports.

The launch introduces us to two new fabrics: the ‘Eco Endurance’ and the ‘Eco Endurabrite’.  

Eco Endurabrite is made from 82% recycled plastic and ocean waste. The swimsuits are also more chlorine-resistant, which means they will fit and feel new for a longer period before being thrown out, reducing waste yet again.

Eco Endurance, on the other hand, is made from 53% recycled polyester.

Both fabrics are part of the Spring/Summer 2022 collection and include swimwear, recycled caps, and paddle suits. This change in the production of the swimsuits has reportedly resulted in saving landfills of over 27,000 meters of fabric.  

The fabrics were created out of a need for environmental change, and Speedo is taking large strides toward its future goal of being net-zero by 2032. Tremendous plastic waste has called for companies to be more cautious of their manufacturing processes and their products. Besides being environmentally0friendly, these swimsuits also send a good message and keep us mindful as we wear these to beaches that are rife with plastic litter.
