Apple Unveils M2 MacBook Air That’s Noticeably Slimmer But More Robust Than Ever
Fans of the MacBook Air, here’s the update you’ve been waiting for. Apple has introduced a redesigned version of the laptop, powered by the new M2 chip, which is now thinner, larger, and more powerful.
Despite the updated, incredibly thin design (20% reduction in volume), the device will come with a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display screen, which is said to be 25% brighter than before. Not to mention, it’ll feature a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, four-speaker sound system, and up to 18 hours of battery life.
Apple is bringing MagSafe charging back to the MacBook Air, with an updated charging port that’s not only easy to connect to the charger, but also has a built-in system that quickly releases the charging cable if accidentally pulled, so you won’t have to worry about your laptop falling over.
Additionally, the device will be equipped with two Thunderbolt ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a Magic Keyboard with a full-height function row with Touch ID, and the iconic Force Touch trackpad.
The M2 chip—promised to be a significant upgrade from the breakthrough M1—will see the laptop’s performance improve further, with 24GB of unified memory and ProRes acceleration in what Apple is calling its “strongest lineup of Mac notebooks ever offered.”
According to the company, even for intensive outputs in Final Cut Pro, performance with the M2 chip is 40% faster than the previous generation, and almost 15 times as fast as those not on the Apple silicon chip.
Beginning next month, the new MacBook Air will be available in the usual silver and space gray, with two new color additions: midnight and starlight. Environmentalists will be pleased to know that the new model uses 100% recycled aluminum in its enclosure, and will also be the first Apple product to use certified recycled steel.
