Apple Announces macOS Ventura—Here Are Highlights You Should Know About
Apple’s new iteration of its Mac operating system is macOS Ventura. Several new features were showcased at the WWDC event, including Continuity Camera, Stage Manager, advanced multitasking features, and security updates.
First and foremost is Stage Manager, which arranges all unused apps aside and keeps the main apps you are working on in focus—basically acting as a Dock for your in-use apps. This makes it easier to track all the apps you are using and stay focused on the work you are doing. If you have an iPad, you might be pleased to know that the feature will be coming to M1-enabled iPads, too.
Continuity Camera integrates Apple’s ecosystem by allowing you to use the camera of your iPhone with video-calling apps on your Mac. Users can now use the iPhone camera as a webcam and take advantage of all its features when on a video call. Apple’s Handoff enters the video-calling sector by allowing you to seamlessly switch between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac during a call, making it easy for those who wish to work together over FaceTime.
The Mail app is also getting a new feature that allows you to retrieve emails that you have sent and edit them if you realize you had made a mistake before sending them out again. Users can also set reminders on individual emails as a reminder to come back to them later.
Tab Groups in Safari now allows you to create a group and share tabs with your friends and family, allowing a live look at what you and the people in the group are looking at. The group can create a shared Bookmarks list and use Messages or FaceTime directly from Safari.
Apple also introduced Passkeys, which is the next generation of identification set to replace passwords. Passkeys are unique digital keys that are stored solely on the device and never on the web, making it virtually impossible for hackers to access them. It uses Face ID and Touch ID as verification and, in line with Apple’s theme of continuity, can be used across all devices.
