ABBA Arena, Which Will Project Members’ Holograms, Is Designed To Travel

After 40 years, ABBA is getting back together in the form of ‘ABBAtars’—virtual holograms of the quartet. The digital likenesses will take to a sci-fi-esque popup arena designed to be dismantled and reconstructed for its next home.

Their songs will live on through the innovation of STUFISH Entertainment Architects, who designed this futuristic arena with reusability in mind. With the ability to take the arena apart and set it up again with ease, fans all over the world will be able to see the beloved Swedish four in action.  

The structure was approved by the London Legacy Development Corporation on the condition that quality and materials were not compromised, in spite of the arena being made to be temporary. It had to not only beautiful but also durable, as per The Spaces.

The ABBAtars were created through motion-capture sensors, perfectly imitating the likeness of Björn, Benny, Agnetha, and Anni-Frid. Film producer Svana Gisla, who has previously worked with Beyoncé and David Bowie, has produced the ABBA Voyage concert. Meanwhile, we have George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic visual effects company to thank for the music and for bringing the ABBAtars to life.  

STUFISH has had the likes of Elton John, U2, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Lady Gaga perform in their permanent and semi-permanent arenas. ABBA’s holograms are their latest installment and a departure from the traditional viewing experience as concerts are entering a new era.  

ABBA Voyage is currently docked at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and will remain there for the next five years before embarking on a new journey. Following after, the site it was on will be turned into land for housing.
