Adidas Sues Nike Over Alleged Shoe Technology, Mobile App

It looks like things are heating up between sportswear giants Adidas and Nike, with the former recently filing a lawsuit alleging its main rival had infringed upon nine of its patents. 

According to Reuters, the suit was filed in an East Texas federal court, claiming that Nike’s Run Club, Training Club, and SNKRS mobile apps have violated Adidas’ intellectual properties, including location-based tracking, training plans, and a feature used to verify customers’ authenticity. 

It doesn’t just stop there. Adidas took issue with Nike’s ‘Adapt’ system, which adjusts sneaker fits based on an individual’s foot, saying that Adidas was the first to develop the “world’s first intelligent running shoe” all the way back in 2004.

While the German corporation is demanding financial decompensation “together with interests and costs,” it doesn’t seem that Nike will back down from the fight just yet, as the latter had filed a complaint against Adidas’ ‘Primeknit’ technology last year.  

It’s certainly intriguing to see two of the world’s foremost sportswear brands go head-to-head in an attempt to secure the rights to innovative ideas.
