United Nations & WhatsApp Have Joined Forces To Battle Climate Change
With the toll climate change is taking on our planet, the United Nations and WhatsApp are joining forces in a new campaign to spread tips on leading a more eco-friendly life through the message broadcasting system.
The campaign titled ActNow is aimed at those in the twenty major economies (G20). The messaging system created by Turn.io provides 10 actions people can make to live a greener life. Some include eating plant-based meals, biking to work, and reusing and repairing clothes. The user can click on each tip to find out more about how they can implement it in their lives. They can also share these tips with friends and family.
The aim of this joint venture is to reach a wider audience through a popular messaging system.
The campaign has already seen over six million individual actions taken to tackle climate change through the campaign’s app and through Facebook and Instagram. A panel of governments from around the world has reported that by 2050, cutting taking such steps could cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% to 70%.
