Atari Unveils Retro 50th-Anniversary Logo That Pays Homage To Its First HQ
On June 27, Atari hits its 50th birthday, and to commemorate the event, the gaming giant is giving its iconic logo a makeover.
Called the ‘Borregas’ logo, the emblem takes inspiration from Atari’s first headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, where the company first launched in 1972.
Beneath the game company’s famous Mount Fuji-inspired logo sits the number 50 in a 70s-inspired translucent green. The symbol gets its name from the street on which the first HQ was located, and takes on a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the interior of the Borregas Ave office. This was the same office where the Atari 2600 and other iconic titles were birthed.
The Borregas logo comes as a complement to the release of the ‘GoldSchool Sunnyvale’ that was also released last year in celebration of the golden anniversary.
A 50th Anniversary Games Collection will be released in 2022 which sees Atari classics being remastered, as well as behind-the-scenes footage on these games that dives into the history and inspiration behind the classic titles.
Both new logos will be used on upcoming merchandise as well as game announcements and collaborations. Atari will be adding to its Atari XP library with rare and never-before-seen Atari 2600 cartridges as well as giving out discounts on its games in celebration of its anniversary.
