Stone Island Creates A Parka That’s Apparently Almost Bulletproof
Men’s clothing brand Stone Island has created a parka that’s as close as we’re going to get to modern-day armor. As part of the brand’s Prototype Research Series, the coat was made from a material known as Kevlar. Kevlar is a synthetic plastic that is stronger than steel and can withstand bullets and knives.
The Prototype Research_Series 06 short fishtail parka has kimono-styled sleeves, a hood, and oversized pockets—all the makings of a regular jacket but with the strength of one of the toughest materials.
The Kevlar filaments were woven into the fabric using ‘stretch broken’ technology. Using a dévoré printing technique, the inner cotton of the clothing is disintegrated to give the windbreaker this see-through yellow mesh finish which exposes the Kevlar.
Kevlar was first produced in 1965 by Stephanie Kwolek at DuPont and was initially used as a replacement for steel in racing tires. It is also commonplace to find it in aircraft. However, it now enters the fashion world with the release of the Stone Island parka that initially debuted at Milan Fashion Week this year.

Unfortunately, there are only 100 of these unique parkas that have been made and each coat has its make number etched into it along with the white Stone Island Textile Research logo.
The Prototype Reasearch_Series is Stone Island’s R&D team that experiments with yet-to-be-industrialized materials, which it then incorporates into its clothing line. Although Kevlar can protect one against a variety of weaponry and weather conditions, Stone Island does not proclaim it can save your life in extreme conditions. However, it would be a great deal more protective than whatever old parka you may have lying in your cupboard.
