You may have heard of Wordle, given its incredible popularity, but how about Heardle? Inspired by the original word game, the latter is a music-guessing game for those of you can recognize your favorite tracks just from the opening bars.
In short, players have to correctly enter the name of a song based on its opening notes within six tries, with each hint giving away a little more of the song.
With millions playing the game with different genres and artists daily, Spotify has announced that, as one of the foremost music platforms online, it will be acquiring the trivia game.
Thankfully, the platform promised the look and feel of the game will remain the same, and that it will continue to be free to the public. There’s just an added bonus of being able to listen to the full track on Spotify at the end of each round.
According to a press release, the streaming network says it has regarded Heardle as “more than a trivia game” and is confident it can be used for musical discovery.
For example, trying to identify the songs doesn’t only pose a fun challenge, but it could also allow users to rediscover old tracks they’d forgotten about or find new artists to tune into.
“We are always looking for innovative and playful ways to enhance music discovery and help artists reach new fans,” explained Jeremy Erlich, Global Head of Music at Spotify.
“Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs … and a way to compete with their friends as to who has the best musical knowledge,” he added.
