Jason Wu, Who Designed Michelle Obama’s Gown, Creates Wearable NFT Dress
Jason Wu and digital fashion label DressX have collaborated to create a wearable NFT of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Ball gown.
The digital version of her gown is an exact replica of the gown designed by Wu and will be dubbed The Dream. The ivory silk gown is currently on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
While you can’t try on the one on show, you can at least rock its digital twin
This will be Wu’s first NFT, and it will be sold exclusively through DressX’s platform at an auction. The winner of the bid will receive a 4K animation, still images of the dress, and photo dressing by DressX.
The new owner will also receive two tickets to Wu’s next New York Fashion Week show in September. In addition, there will be backstage access and a meet and greet with the designer. This follows a growing trend of brands combining online and in-person perks.
The digitalization of the dress is an attempt to preserve it as well as the moment it represented as Americans across the country watched President Obama take office for the first time.
