The First Fully Electric Jet Ski Hits The Waters

With the release of the first fully electric jet ski, Canadian brand Taiga Motors is making electric waves in the jet ski market. 

The all-electric personal watercraft (PWC), known as the ‘Orca’, took two years to develop, and while it is not the first battery-powered PWC on the market, it is the first to be mass-produced. The Orca will be powered by the same battery that powers the brand's snowmobiles. 

The most interesting difference between this and regular jet skis, aside from how it is powered, is that this jet ski is completely silent. The use of a battery power pack eliminates the iconic sounds associated with a jet ski.  

The jet skis are three feet long and can seat two riders. Its 24-kWh battery will take you approximately 28 miles. However, the distance and number of charges required will vary depending on the mode (Range, Sport, or Wild). It has Level 2 charging, so your jet ski will be ready to go in 3.5 hours. 

Taiga Motors will release three models in the collection—Sport, Performance, and Carbon—in seven different colors. The Carbon model is the only one in the line that has Level 3 charging, allowing you to recharge the jet ski up to 80% in half an hour. Its name is also derived from its unique carbon composite hull. 

The electric PWCs are now available for purchase, with prices starting at US$17,490 and rising to US$26,500 for the Carbon model.
