Meet The 31 New Emojis Expected To Come To iOS & Android In 2023
Do you spend much of your texting time swiping through screens of emojis to find the perfect one that sums up your feelings? Well, be prepared to see 31 new ones added to this list next year. With that being said, there can never be enough emojis.
It’s that time of year again when Emojipedia presents the proposed designs to join smartphones in the coming year. There’s a ‘Shaking Face’, along with new heart colors of light blue, gray, and plain pink.
2023 is also expected to bring left and right pushing hands in five skin tones, which make up more than a third of the 31 emoticons.
The latest variety of recommendations has noticeably fewer emojis than previous lineups. There were 217 new ones last year, and 112 will be released this year. According to Emojipedia, it’s also the first time we haven’t gotten any new people emojis.
Nevertheless, new animal icons are anticipated to be born into the ecosystem, including a moose, a donkey, a goose, and a jellyfish.
Other objects include a hyacinth, a piece of ginger, pea pods, a hair pick, maracas, and a flute. There’s also a new religious symbol: the Sikh Khanda.

As usual, the above are just artistic interpretations based on descriptions of the proposed emojis. The aesthetic of Emojipedia’s artworks is a little closer to that of Apple’s emojis, but you can expect the Android, Google, Facebook, and Twitter versions to sport similar traits.
The Unicode Consortium, which standardizes emoji designs across screens, will still have to approve the list, though most suggestions usually make it. If all goes well, you’ll first see the new emojis in some operating systems later this year, with a full rollout expected in the first half of 2023.
