Amazon Is Reportedly Working On Vaccines For Breast & Skin Cancer

Despite how much folks riff on billionaires, including MSCHF’s latest plea to get us to “eat the rich,” it appears there’s good that can come out of the world’s wealthiest individuals.

In a report by Insider, it’s been revealed that Jeff Bezos’ Amazon is working with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center to develop breast and skin cancer vaccines, and has moved onto the clinical trial stage. 

As per people familiar with the matter, should the project—which is said to be part of the brand’s secretive moonshot lab, Grand Challenge—prove successful, the new vaccines will enable patients to receive personalized treatment at more affordable prices, and could even become an alternative to chemotherapy. 

News of this partnership was first sounded in October last year, when a summary of the program was uploaded onto an online database of clinical studies. The actual study started on June 9, 2022, and is expected to be completed on November 1, 2023. 

At the moment, the trial is recruiting 20 patients to test a “US FDA-regulated drug product,” though not much else is known about the vaccines’ development. An Amazon spokesperson told the site it’s likely the project will be a “long, multi-year process.” 

It seems that, going forward, Bezos is looking to expand Amazon’s portfolio in the healthcare industry, with the spokesperson hinting that the company would be keen to work with other researchers on similar endeavors.
