TikTok Introduces Mature Content Filter For Teens’ Feeds

TikTok has just released a new filtering system that will prevent users between the ages of 13 and 17 from viewing certain mature content, as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to keep minors and children safe on the internet.
The platform already has adult content bans in place for everyone on the app, but this new filter will seek out videos with complex themes intended for adult audiences and remove them from the ‘For You Page’ of younger users.
The new ‘Content Levels’ regulation will sift through videos and assign a maturity score to those it deems inappropriate. The system will continue to evolve over time, eventually offering filter options to everyone. TikTok plans to ultimately begin rating its videos in the same vein that movies are rated.
Adults on the platform will soon have more control, as they will be able to block specific hashtags and keywords from their For You and Following pages. The days of being subjected to repetitive content will soon be over, as this new system allows people to block content that they are tired of seeing or don’t particularly care about from appearing in their feeds.
TikTok used the example of a vegan viewer blocking recipes with dairy and meat from appearing. This will alter how people interact with TikTok, possibly making it a more enjoyable place for everyone.
