Apple’s MacBook Pro To Get M2 Chip Upgrade With Focus On Graphics

If you’ve been saving up for a new MacBook, maybe don’t make the switch just yet. Recent reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, reputed Apple insider, have revealed that new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros could be hitting the shelves as soon as this fall.

The upgraded models will feature the more powerful M2 chip, though the overall design of the laptops are “likely to stay roughly the same,” with no significant aesthetic tweaks. 

Despite this, power users may still look forward to the M2 Pro and M2 Max, considering the new chips will allow the MacBook Pros to run more quickly and handle heavier-duty workflows, with Gurman pointing to graphics as the main focus.

As Ars Technica notes, graphics could see a major improvement, considering Apple’s reporting its M2 chip documented a modest 10% to 20% increase in CPU performance, and up to 40% better graphics performance over the previous iteration. 

While the forthcoming MacBook Pros are expected to launch between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, Gurman pointed out “continued supply-chain challenges” make it difficult to determine exactly when the new models will be released, though they’re certainly coming soon.
