‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Is Getting A Reboot, This Time By Its Original Creator

If you grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, you’ll remember the good old days of Cartoon Network shows that kept you glued to the television screen after school. 

Now, Craig McCracken, the brains behind The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, has announced that the two projects are being rebooted for the 21st century. 

Both series are currently in the works at the Hanna-Barbara Studios in Europe in collaboration with Warner Bros Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, of which President Sam Register described as “an opportunity we could not pass up.” 

“Along with his (McCracken’s) unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he’s bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio,” Register added. 

As per the press release, The Powerpuff Girls—which first debuted in 1998—will see its reboot revisit and build upon the lives of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as seen in the original series, where they’ll battle against a slew of familiar foes and new villains. 

The Powerpuff Girls has seen a couple of remakes over the years. There was the 2006 Japanese anime Powerpuff Girls Z, while a 2016 adaptation of the original animation was developed by SpongeBob SquarePants and Adventure Time art director Nick Jennings and Nickelodeon animator Bob Boyle.

As for Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, released back in 2004, the series will return as an original preschool animated series with a new cast of similarly-aged imaginary friends, who are said to be “just as silly and playful as the original bunch.” 

We can’t be the only ones excited to see these shows on our screens again, right?
