MSCHF x Jimmy Fallon Turn Gobstoppers Into Shoes That Change Color Over Time
American art collective MSCHF always seems to have something up its sleeves, from ‘Satan Shoes’ to ‘Eat The Rich’ billionaire-inspired popsicles and now a shoe that quite literally lets you walk on rainbows.
Designed in collaboration with Jimmy Fallon, the ‘Gobstomper’ may look like an ordinary pair of plain canvas sneakers, but give it a month or two and you’ll find yourself with a unique time-worn piece with an almost weather-report-style myriad of colors.
The Gobstomper takes inspiration from the Gobstopper candy, the infamous hard candy with a colorful center. And just as you would sit and chew away at the layers of the candy to reveal the rainbow hidden inside, wear and tear will also chew away at the beige suede exterior.
Four layers of canvas encapsulate the shoe, with a beige exterior and a red, blue, and yellow interior that mimic the candy.
Wearers are encouraged to destroy their footwear and create their unique designs thanks to the peelable layers. MSCHF’s logo appears on the tongue and the back of the shoe, while Fallon’s face appears on the tongue and insole.
The shoes are retailing for US$195 and will be released on July 28 exclusively via MSCHF’s own dedicated app.
