Never worry about bumping your knees or stubbing your toes into furniture again when you use PlayStation’s latest VR headset.
The VR2 headset was announced alongside the PlayStation 5; however, there has been little news about it since. Until now, that is, as Sony has just released further information about the headgear on its PlayStation blog.
The new VR2 is expected to have a see-through mode, a cinematic VR mode, a personalized play area, and a simpler way for users to livestream themselves.
Players can view their surroundings when using the headset in the see-through mode. This is accomplished through front-mounted cameras on the VR2 that, when accessible through the system menu, provide a live feed of their surroundings.
Now with a cinematic VR mode, users can also view 360-degree footage in 4000 x 2040 HDR video at 120 frames per second.
With the new customizable play area, players may mark the area they are playing in with the controllers, and the headset will scan the room as they move around. The internal system will alert players when they cross the borders of their play area while they are still playing and prompt them to recenter themselves.
It’s no secret that livestreams of VR games have been talking points lately, but broadcasting with a headset on can be a little troublesome. Sony intends to capitalize on the livestreaming community’s recent explosive growth by making its VR2 simpler to use.
A face-cam view of the player can be instantly streamed to their feed when they connect a PS5 HD Camera to the console. Additionally, the feature automatically removes the background so that only the player is visible against the game’s backdrop.
As of right now, there is still no release date or price available for the VR2.
