Klondike Discontinues Its Choco Taco, Sending The Internet Into A Flurry
It’s a sad day in the ice cream world as Klondike has reportedly discontinued the fan favorite, Choco Taco.
The news sent the internet into a flurry as many couldn’t believe their childhoods were being binned.
A Klondike representative told NPR that a sudden spike in the company’s demand meant that some “serious decisions” had to be made about the ice cream company’s portfolio. The result was the completely disheartening demise of the Choco Taco.
The quirky dessert saw Klondike’s signature ice cream molded into the shape of the Mexican dish. Needless to say, it was a staple dessert across America.
Unsurprisingly, the internet took the discontinuation personally and many tweeted out at the horrors of having to wake up to a world where they can no longer buy a Choco Taco.
In fact, it wasn’t just the general public who was deeply affected. Connecticut’s Senator, Chris Murphy, even made an announcement of a legislation he was going to make that ensured the interminable production of the ice cream bars.
ð¨NEWS: Tomorrow I am introducing legislation to invoke the Defense Production Act to mandate the continued manufacture of Choco Tacos. Please call your Senator and demand they co-sponsor. https://t.co/7XLgs6IfOn

The co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian, even offered Unilever to buy the rights to the ice cream so that it could still be produced.
Dear @Unilever — I'd like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations' childhoods. https://t.co/eXsmoR8kIV

But one has to wonder if it isn’t just a brilliant marketing ploy to reintroduce people to the ice cream. Many of those on Twitter cited that they hadn’t had one since they were kids, and perhaps Klondike was finding a way to bring them back into the spotlight.
The internet is a great place to catastrophize something by announcing an event as drastic as this and then swooping in at the last minute to save the day.
Whatever it is, for now, we’ll have to bid the dessert goodbye and hope it finds its way to creamier pastures.
