This Electric Bike Can Apparently Cover Mount Everest On A Single Charge

An electric bike company, Optibike, is touting its newest e-bicycle battery that can bring you up Mount Everest. Or at least a distance equivalent to the mountain’s summit.

The R22 Everest Edition is an e-bike with a battery pack that can last its rider 300 miles on a single charge. While there aren’t any straight roads to the top of its namesake mountain, you can at least ride through smaller mountain dirt tracks without having to worry about charging your bike.

The bicycle features a 3.6kWh battery, which is roughly five times the size of the average electric bike power source on the market, and it can travel up to 36 mph. It has a dual crown front suspension fork, eight inches of rear suspension, and can go up to 190 Nm of torque thanks to Optibike’s proprietary PowerStorm mid-drive motor.

Under US law, this means that this bike is off-road only.

The 300-mile distance is also subject to the rider weighing no more than 165 pounds and traveling at no more than 15 miles per hour.

If you’re wondering if a bike that can literally go the distance of the world’s tallest mountain in one single charge has any setbacks, you would be right—and that would be its mountainous price of a whopping US$19,000. Each unit is custom-made to order in Colorado, where Optibike is from.
