Hasbro Teases Future Of Plastic Packaging For Its Vintage Toys

Collectors of Hasbro figurines will be pleased to learn that the toy manufacturer will continue to use plastic windows and blister packaging for its ‘Retro’ and ‘Vintage’ range of toys.

According to a Hasbro update made at San Diego Comic-Con, the choice was made in response to complaints from the collecting community about the company’s decision to stop using plastic in its packaging.

As a result, all 3.75-inch toys from its Retro and Vintage ranges will still come in their original packaging. The windows on the boxes are made of recycled PET and plant-based plastic to combat this decision and the environmental problems it will cause.

With that being said, packaging in toy lines such as these will be rendered plastic free: Marvel Legends, Power Rangers Lightning, Star Wars: The Black Series, and G.I. Joe Classified.

Plastic windows to look into the box are so crucial in the toy collector sphere as people need to check if the paint is applied correctly and if they’re not being scammed. Often, toys are switched out by malicious parties even with the plastic in place.

The toymakers previously filed a patent for an anti-tamper design to prevent people from doing as such. However, this announcement shows that being able to see the toy takes precedence over being assured the toys cannot be swapped out.

With the announcement, Hasbro also introduced completely plastic-free packaging for its other lines. It also plans to introduce new revamped artwork for the new boxes.

This solidifies Hasbro’s move to strive towards and strike a balance between its history in vintage toy figurines and its future.
