CNN Debuts NFT Art To Commemorate Nelson Mandela’s Release From Prison
History can be passed down in so many ways, from schools to museums to documentaries, and now even via non-fungible tokens. CNN’s Web3 group, Vault by CNN, is teaming up with NFT platform Probably Nothing to create a collectible in remembrance of Nelson Mandela.
The digital art, depicting Mandela’s prison cell on Robben Island, South Africa, was created by Jeremy Fall to commemorate the historic day that Mandela was released from jail, on February 11, 1990.
The artwork was created using artificial intelligence, along with imagery and videos of Mandela’s cell for reference. Fall states that the flowers outside of his cell window represent hope, and the blue motif used in the piece represents freedom and inspiration.
At least 250 iterations of the token will be put on sale at a going rate of US$100.
Vault by CNN will also be releasing never-before-seen footage of Mandela as he claimed freedom once again. Mandela’s image was banned due to his interference in the government. Still, his devotion to peace remained strong even while serving his sentence.
The collaboration takes a significant moment in history and delivers it via an ultra-modern way of consuming information. Vault by CNN was created to teach followers about past events and let users collect their own pieces of yesteryear.
