Entire Chain Of 7-Eleven Stores Shutters In Denmark Following Cyberattack

If you’re looking for a quick stop to stock up on some snacks and drinks in Denmark, don’t head to 7-Eleven (yet). 

It appears the entire chain of the ubiquitous convenience stores—176 in total—in the country have been shuttered, following reports of a cyberattack that disrupted payment and checkout systems. 

According to Bleeping Computer, the attack occurred early on August 8, which was then confirmed by the company when it posted on Facebook that it was “exposed to a hacker attack.” 

The translated statement said the stores were unable to use its checkouts or receive payments, and had no choice but to remain closed till the extent of the cyberattack has been fully investigated.

“We are therefore closed until we know the extent [of the attack]. We hope to be able to open stores again soon,” 7-Eleven wrote. 

The Local noted that certain stores even resorted to placing paper signs in their windows to alert customers of the sudden closure.

No further details have emerged just yet, though it’s certainly surprising to see a cyberattack of this magnitude take down an entire group of stores.
