Miss Universe Is Finally Welcoming Mothers And Wives To Enter After 70 Years

It may have taken 70 years, but the Miss Universe pageant is finally willing to recognize mothers and wives as worthy contestants in the annual competition. 

Starting in 2023, contestants no longer have to be single and childless. According to The National, the move is being made to remove any barriers to women achieving success in the competition. 

Since the inception of the competition in 1952, mothers and wives had been deemed unsuitable contestants in the running for the most beautiful woman on Earth. The decision to do so implied that beauty as something only young, single, childless women can possess. 

This move will undoubtedly redefine outdated stereotypes, by being more inclusive and empowering women, both participating or not. Josh Yugen of Yugen Group and the director of Miss Universe Bahrain told The National that the organization is moving along with the times and removing its archaic rules to give more freedom to the women competing.  

Just last year, Miss Univers Bahrain competed in a full-body swimsuit instead of the traditional bikini.  

So far, word on whether the age range of 18-28 will be removed has yet to be announced.
