Earlier this week, the world celebrated International Cat Day, and to commemorate this oh-so-important date, Pokémon GO decided it would be the perfect time to make use of a giant 3D billboard along the streets of Shinjuku.
The incredibly realistic, three-dimension display shows some of the game’s cult-favorite feline Pokémon, including Meowth, Alolan Meowth, Galarian Meowth, Skitty, Glameow, Purrloin, Espurr, and Litten.
According to Time Out, this out-of-this-world billboard originally debuted last year with a 3D cat video, though it will now be overshadowed by the various Pokémon characters till September 5, 2022.
If you’re wondering exactly how it works, Kotaku reports that the display features a two-story curved screen, reaching all the way around the corners of the building, to create an anamorphic optical illusion that makes the characters appear to be stepping out onto the street.
Plus, the floating Poké Balls, fake framing, and false scaffolding at the bottom of the screen add further weight to the illusion.
Don’t worry if you won’t be in Tokyo in time to see the billboard in person, as you’ll still be able to experience it below.
