Amazon Is Turning Ring Doorbell Footage Into A Candid-Camera Show
As far as wacky reality shows go, this one in the works at Amazon could be one of the oddest pitches you might have heard in a while.
Dubbed Ring Nation, the forthcoming series will take surveillance footage from the company’s Ring security cameras and turn it into some sort of America’s Funniest Home Videos spinoff.
According to Deadline, the show, which will be hosted by comedian Wanda Sykes, will premiere on September 26, and could feature secret doorbell footage ranging from hilarious animals to surprise engagement proposals.
“Ring Nation is a half-hour, studio-based series that gives audiences a daily dose of life’s unpredictable, heartwarming, and hilarious viral videos shared by people from their video doorbells, smart home cameras, and more,” described the show’s press release.
“From neighbors saving neighbors and marriage proposals to military reunions and silly animals, Ring Nation showcases the most buzzworthy clips from coast to coast,” it added.
While some may certainly welcome the promise of new entertainment, as Mashable points out, it does appear to have unnerved some Ring customers that footage from their surveillance could possibly be combed through, though no evidence of that has surfaced yet.
Just last month, the company landed itself in hot water by admitting it gave surveillance footage to the authorities without customers’ consent, though in this case, Amazon said the featured clips were all submitted by users themselves.
