“Turning your side hustle into your main hustle isn’t easy. We know, because we’ve done it ourselves,” quips Herschel Supply Co.
Acknowledging the challenges creatives face when trying to set foot in the field, the bag brand has set up a ‘Bank of Creativity’ to help emerging talent make a name for themselves, especially in the area of resources and financing.
The company highlights how a lack of resources, absence of mentorship, and inadequate financial support often hinders next steps for talents, considering how it’s “near impossible” for those in creative industries to receive funding from financial institutions.
As such, last month, the Bank of Creativity opened its doors to artists in Brooklyn, New York, for two days. Successful applicants were granted a face-to-face session with one of the brand’s three advisors—who happened to be fellow creatives already established in their respective fields.
During the hour-long meeting, guests were able to listen to thoughtful and impact advice, and more tangibly, “career boosting resources and supplies.” This included camera equipment, art supplies, computers, and studio spaces to help them advance their work.
“As the champion of Creatives, the Herschel Supply Bank of Creativity provided [the artists] with real mentorship and tools to help them launch their careers and continue chasing their passions,” the firm explained.
Hopefully, initiatives such as this will aid emerging talent and support them as they work towards establishing themselves as new generation of creatives.
