The Macallan Creates Horizontal Whiskey Bottle, Inspired By Bentley Cars

Unlike any other whiskey out there, The Macallan Horizon is a bottle without a base and instead is meant to rest on its side.

It is the aerodynamic design birthed from a partnership between Bentley Motors and The Macallan. The glass bottle has a distinctive 180-degree twist and a protective covering.

The design of the bottle, says The Macallan’s Global Creative Director Jaume Ferras, is influenced by the way Bentley makes its cars.

Six environmentally-friendly materials went into the construction of the horizontal whiskey bottle, motivated by The Macallan’s Six Pillars. The components include the same carbon-zero leather produced in Scotland and used in the Bentley Batur, as well as reclaimed copper from the former Macallan distillery, aluminum recovered by Bentley Motors, and upcycled glass.  

Chris Cooke, Bentley’s Product and Lifestyle Design Manager, asserts that because of the bottle’s design, light is considered a material, and that the wood and the glass creates a beautiful display as light flows through it.  

The cutting-edge, futuristic bottle will hold a single malt whiskey that the Macallan Distillery is still in the process of making.  

While all of this sounds like a whiskey bottle destined for an art show, the final product is on the horizon but won’t be ready until summer of 2023.
