Disney Reveals First Look At Pinocchio As A Real, Live-Action Boy In New Trailer

Disney has carved the 1940 classic animation Pinocchio into a live-action remake, and it’ll be here even before the coach reaches Pleasure Island.

The latest trailer for Disney+’s live-action Pinocchio offers the first glimpse at the puppet boy (voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) in the flesh. As a sigh of relief, his appearance is a faithful recreation of the original—and perhaps even more comfortingly, he doesn’t look creepy. As a wooden doll with painted-on eyes, there’s plenty of room for the character’s design to go wrong pretty quickly.

The story revives the beloved fairytale of a lonesome toymaker named Gepetto (played by Tom Hanks) who sculpts a wooden puppet, which comes to life and dreams of one day becoming a real human boy.

The 2022 adaptation reunites Hanks with Robert Zemeckis, who directed Forrest Gump and helms the role of director for Pinocchio. It also stars Luke Evans (who played Gaston in the live-action Beauty and the Beast) as the Coachman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key as Honest John, and Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli. A new character, Sofia the Seagull, is being voiced by Lorraine Bracco.

The live-action Pinocchio will feature music by Alan Silvestri, who scored Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Lilo & Stitch, and The Parent Trap.

It will come to life on Disney+ on September 8, also known as Disney+ Day.
