Burger King Rolls Out ‘Whopper Swapper’ Deal For Free Meatless Burger Exchanges

In celebration of National Burger Day in the UK, August 25, Burger King is offering customers free vegan or plant-based burgers as part of its ‘Go Meat Free For Free’ initiative. 

The first 10,000 customers can snag a meat-free Plant-Based Whopper or Vegan Royale at no cost via the brand’s mobile application. 

Previously, back in 2019, the brand had tried a similar campaign by allowing patrons in Sweden to choose from a special ‘50/50’ menu, where they were served vegetarian or regular sandwiches at random and had to guess their contents.

According to The Drum, the fast-food chain came up with that idea after research revealed that 51% of meat eaters in Britain indicated they wouldn’t try a plant-based patty even if it was given to them for free. 

Of course, Burger King had to step up to the challenge with ‘Whopper Swapper’, in a bid to encourage meat eaters to give its alternative meat burgers a chance. 

The restaurant has been leading the charge in promoting plant-based burgers to customers, with plans to go 50% meat-free by 2030. Plus, it even trialed its first-ever non-meat location in Leicester Square, London earlier this year. 

However, as Vegan Food & Living pointed out, strict vegans should note the chain’s vegan burger hasn’t been certified by The Vegan Society, as it is still cooked on the same broiler as meat-based patties.
