BlackBerry’s Rise & Fall Have Been Made Into A Blockbuster Movie

BlackBerry came, left an indelible mark on society and the tech industry, and then left like a thief in the night.

Now filmmakers are looking to document its rise and fall and add it to Hollywood’s roster of biopics. The movie is set to be filmed by Matt Johnson—who directed The Dirties—and will be titled BlackBerry.

It wasn’t uncommon to find a BlackBerry phone in the hand of anyone and everyone on the streets in the 2000s. Alas, despite reinventing the mobile phone game, its parent company Research in Motion soon found itself embroiled in legal disputes.

It ended with the phone fading away from the limelight as smartphone giants Apple and Samsung entered the ring.

The crux of the movie will center around Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, the founders of BlackBerry, and their relationship.

Filming for the series had just wrapped up in Canada. The lead role of Jim Balsillie is being played by Glenn Howerton from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. While Jay Baruchel has been cast as Mike Lazaridis, as of now, no release date has been announced.
