Steve Jobs Signed A Letter Saying No To Autographs, It Sells For Nearly $500K
As it turns out, Steve Jobs wasn’t just a tech genius but a comedic one as well.
At a recent auction held by RR Auction, which included an original iPhone still sealed in its box, a document addressed to a fan by the Apple co-founder himself was sold for more than a pretty penny.
On May 11, 1983, Jobs wrote to his recipient: “I’m honored that you’d write, but I’m afraid I don’t sign autographs.”
Cheekily, he signed the letter off in his famous lowercase signature.
Jobs was notoriously known for never signing autographs for fans. Yet, even knowing this, a fan decided to try their luck, and it turned out to be a worthwhile decision. The note is a great peek behind the curtains into the tech guru’s personality.
The letter was typed out on an 8.5 x 11” piece of printing paper with the Apple company logo as the letterhead. Nearly 40 years on, it has now been browned with age. There is also a small stain at the bottom of the page.
The keepsake was sold for US$479,939, a hefty price for a curiously humorous piece of technological history.
