Gas Cars To Be Phased Out From California By 2035
California is bidding farewell to gas-powered cars as a new regulation seeks to phase out the vehicles from the state by 2035.
While there is still over a decade between now and then, the move to eliminate such cars will begin by 2026, when the state intends to have at least 35% of any new automotive sales to be zero emission.
The law will target cars, trucks, and SUVs before a total ban takes place by the time we hit 2035.
The proposal was brought up by the California Air Resource Board (CARB), which had taken an initiative created by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2020 that had already started the plan to eliminate gas cars by 2035.

According to NPR, the state has clarified that the ban will not prevent people who already own gas-fueled vehicles from driving them. And this will also not affect the second-hand automotive market.
Instead, this is a campaign to hasten the uptake of electric vehicles by preventing any new sales.
Electric cars have been on the market for decades now. Between hybrids and the introduction of Teslas into the market, more and more carmakers are shifting to an all-electric future. However, people still seem a little reluctant to make that switch.
From April to July of this year, only 5.6% of cars sold have been EVs.
The move also seeks to get rid of California’s infamous dirty air. A report from the American Lung Association, via NPR, noted that a zero-emission goal by 2035 will help prevent 110,000 deaths in the state.
