Apple Reportedly Wraps Up iPhone 14 Tests For Satellite Connectivity

Apple’s future seems to be written in the stars as it tests out satellite connectivity for its devices.

According to reputed tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant has completed tests to ensure its upcoming iPhone 14 hardware will be able to handle satellite capabilities.

The feature has been long-anticipated after leaks assumed it would be released with the iPhone 13. Now, new evidence suggests the iPhone 14 could be the device that takes Apple’s phone service into space.

Primarily, this will be introduced to enhance emergency usage on the phone, as the iPhone will essentially be able to be used as a satphone that can be used in remote locations.

Satellite connectivity was one of the test items for the phone before it was given the green light for mass production, according to the report by Kuo. 

The smartphone might be the only Apple device this year to receive this function. As of now, sources are still unsure if it will reach the Apple Watch in the upcoming release. 

According to NextPit, the smartwatch may still be missing vital components necessary for it to carry outer space connectivity.

This new venture into satellite service will enable Apple’s users to rely not only on earth-bound telecommunication towers but connections out in space as well.

However, the implementation of this feature will depend on Apple’s agreements with other telecommunications providers. As such, Kuo has clarified that confirmation on the implementation is still very much up in the air. 

Cell service and internet broadband seem to be heading to a new frontier as Tesla’s galactic internet network Starlink has also collaborated with T-Mobile.
