Lenovo Designs Foldable Tablet That Can Turn Into A Keyboard-Less Laptop

Lenovo is removing any debate someone might have over whether to get a new laptop or tablet by marrying the two together. 

The ThinkPad X1 Fold, the latest iteration of its kind, boasts a larger screen than its predecessor to be be transformed into a keyboard-free laptop with a compatible desktop mode.

At its full width, the device has a 4:3 aspect ratio and measures 16.3 inches, three inches bigger than the previous X1 Fold. It has an OLED panel with a resolution of 2,560 by 2,024 pixels. When the tablet is used in clamshell mode, it gives two 12-inch screens. 

The X1 Fold can, as the name suggests, fold into different positions and offer up various uses for whatever its user needs. When fully open, it has a slimness of 8.6 mm, and is just 17.4 mm-thin when closed, making this a great companion for those on the go. 

Flexible working styles are catered to as you can use it outright as a tablet with its stylus, or bend it to turn it into a laptop. You can even attach a keyboard to it if you prefer a more tactile working experience.

With its keyboard, you can also turn it into a mini desktop and use the screen either in portrait or landscape mode. Its versatility also allows you to hold it like a book or a newspaper.

Lenovo has installed an AI-powered chip and a 48Wh battery with smart power-saving modes to the X1 Fold. When you walk away from the gadget, it will immediately go into standby mode and turn its screen off until you return. It will even turn back on on its own, and you can pick up right where you left off.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold is expected to hit the market later this year at a base price of US$2,499. The price is subjected to change based on upgrades—including a 5G option and various accessories—added to it.
