The year 2023 is waking up bright and early with the chickens, thanks to this calendar fronted by men and their chooks.
Created by Portland-based photographer and artist Danielle Brock in 2021, the lovable Chicken Daddies calendar features a charming breed of men of all shapes and sizes who rear chickens and have the confidence to crow about it. They’re modeled in pinup poses, and everyone has good fun.
The 2023 edition of the body-positive calendar doesn’t put all its eggs in one basket. There are two versions: an Eggcracker Edition, which poses its chicken daddies and hens in tutus; and the Betty Clucker Edition, where the daddies are envisioned as housewives in traditional settings.
Brock, who embarked on the wholesome project by first photographing her boyfriend, tells Petaluma Argus Courier that the overarching energy of Chicken Daddies is “rustic” and “a little hillbilly.”
The photographer scouts her models through a signup form on her website. Interestingly, candidates don’t have to share a photo—it’s all about their chicken daddy stories and whether they’re open to donning costumes like tutus or farm dresses.
In other words, the models can’t be chicken—plus, that role is already occupied. “I don’t care how old you are… You can be fit. You can be big. It’s all good,” Brock tells the publication.
The only necessary, desirable trait is confidence, which is something the audience will certainly pick up on.
