There’s nothing easier to feed the kids in the morning than breakfast cereal, though parents often worry the simple meal could potentially be unhealthy in the long run.
To put minds at ease, Nestlé Cereals has collaborated with media firm McCann London to create an extra-wide variety pack, comprising 18 different cereals from the brand that do not contain any “red traffic lights,” or harmful components.
In theory, if all the cereals were indeed bundled into one pack, it would measure over 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) long! That would make it quite a struggle to get it out of the shopping cart and into the car.
For those unfamiliar, “traffic light” food labeling aims to help consumers make better choices when purchasing food, allowing them to keep track of the sugar, salt, and fat they’re accumulating each day.
“The red, amber, and green colors show at a glance whether a product is high, medium, or low in fat, saturated fat, sugar, or salt. If a product has less red and more green than another, it’s often the healthier choice,” Nestlé explained.
By highlighting the range of cereals containing no red nutritional traffic lights, the brand hopes consumers will now have “more choice and less worry.”
In fact, the firm revealed that over the last decade, it has removed 59 million teaspoons of sugar and three million teaspoons of salt from its products, while keep the same taste.
