London Fashion Week To Go Ahead As Planned, But Burberry Axes Show

News of the Queen’s passing will no doubt be putting a damper on the festivities of London Fashion Week this year, though most shows are still slated to go ahead. 

However, Burberry, one of the country’s most iconic brands, has decided to axe its show—originally scheduled for September 17, 2022—in a show of respect. 

According to an announcement by the British Fashion Council (BFC), most of the planned events will still go ahead, given that designers prepare months in advance to show their collections.

“London Fashion Week is a business-to-business event and an important moment for designers to show their collections at a specific moment in the fashion calendar, and we recognize the work that goes into this moment,” it stated. 

While the presentations will continue, the BFC cautioned brands to “respect the mood of the nation and period of national mourning by considering the timing of their image release.” 

Additionally, it’s noted that runways shows on the day of the Queen’s funeral, most likely to be held on September 18 or 19, will have to be rescheduled, and that companies should consider shuttering their retail stores as well. 

Vogue Business pointed out that the possibly affected designers include high-profile names Simone Rocha, Christopher Kane, Rejina Pro, and Erdem, who will receive details on the rearrangement once the date of the Queen’s funeral has been confirmed.
