It’s finally becoming a part of your world. Six years after the movie was first confirmed, Disney has released the debut trailer for its live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey as the production house’s first Black Ariel.
While only Ariel appears in the shot, it has been announced that Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, and Daveed Diggs will be among the names starring alongside Bailey in the film.
During Disney’s mega panel at its D23 event, director Rob Marshall—known for Mary Poppins Returns, Into The Woods, and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides—revealed that the adaption will feature four new songs written by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
According to GamesRadar, filming for the movie had originally been supposed to begin in April 2020 but was postponed till January 2021 due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic.
The original Disney animated film first appeared on screens all the way back in 1989, with the live-action version scheduled to debut in May next year.
