Washington DC To Open A Museum Spotlighting LGBTQ+ History 

After two bills were recently enacted to request a fund for its establishment, LGBTQ+ history will be commemorated with the opening of a museum in its honor.
 
One of just eight openly gay members of Congress, Wisconsin Representative Mark Pocan, made the request. The bill has received the signatures of all eight and 50 additional House members. According to ARTnews, he said in a statement that the community is experiencing the erasure of its history, and it’s now or never to safeguard it. 
 
The Washingtonian claims that protests by students across the state against Virginia’s decision not to protect transgender kids led to the bill’s passage.
 
However, it might take a long time for the request to go through as it will have to form a committee to evaluate if the gallery can even be created.
 
The first bill would see the formation of a team of eight museum experts who are also part of the LGBTQ+ community. The second will then be the actual inception of the building.  
 
And if all goes well, it is presumed that the foundation will be set up on or close to the National Mall. However, in the same report by The Washingtonian, it was noted that it could take close to a decade for buildings on the Mall to be ready.
