Are you as proactive in voting as you are in the dating field? Tinder certainly hopes so, with its new initiative to encourage young singles to head to the voting booths as the 2022 Midterm Elections approach.
Likening voting to “finding the perfect match for your civil rights,” the dating app is doubling down on the importance for millennials and Gen Z to get involved in the electoral process. However, a recent survey by the company found that 63% of users aged 18 to 25 found ballots difficult to understand.
As such, Tinder has collaborated with BallotReady for its own Election Center, allowing users to access voter registration tools, find their nearest polling station, and refer to easy-to-understand guides if they’re confused.
Apart from performing your civic duty as a citizen, heading to the polls could be good for your love life too. Over half (53%) of young singles on the application said a potential match being a regular voter made them more attractive.
In fact, 47% feel so strongly about voting that their partner not being a participant would be a dealbreaker for the relationship.
Members can access the Election Center under the Explore tab within the application, and can choose to attach ‘I Voted’ stickers to their profiles to attract like-minded matches.
“This new generation of daters wants to be heard… Many young singles don’t feel properly informed on key issues in these midterm elections, and we want to do something about that,” quips Melissa Hobley, Chief Marketing Officer at Tinder.
