Largest ‘Pokémon’ Collection As Recognized By Guinness Records Heads To Auction

If you’re planning on acquiring the biggest Pokémon collection in the world, here’s a fair warning: it’s going to cost you. 

Soon heading to auction, the incredible lot—comprising 20,000 items amassed over 25 years—is estimated to be worth a whopping £250,000 (US$278,000) to £300,000 (US$334,000).

According to Hansons Auctioneers, this treasure trove of Pokémon artifacts belongs to a woman in Hertfordshire, England, who was first recognized by the Guinness World Records in 2009 when she had collected 12,113 items.

The collection has grown steadily since, reaching 17,127 items in 2016 and is now hovering around the 20,000 item mark, though some of her collectibles include duplicates. 

Among them are trading cards, posters, toys, action figures, and even… toilet paper, hailing from the UK, the US, France, Japan, and a host of other countries. 

Standouts from the batch include first edition sealed base set packs, unlimited sealed booster packs, a Jumbo Lottery Ho-Oh, and a Japanese Mew plushie signed by creator Shigeki Morimoto. 

Now, after a quarter of a century of hunting for the most precious merchandise, the mammoth collection is being offered to the public, with the seller only keeping a few sentimental items for herself. 

“This is a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own the single largest collection of Pokémon memorabilia that has ever come to the market. It is currently being stored in a secure lock-up,” said David Wilson-Turner, Head of the Toy Department at Hansons Auctioneers.
