Delta Could Soon Fly Passengers To Their Doorsteps Using Electric Air Taxis

We’ve all been there: getting off a long-haul flight only to remember that there’s another wait for the ride-share home. Well, what if you could simply zip from the luggage checkout straight to the doorstep of your home?

As impossible as it may seem, that’s exactly what Delta Airlines has in mind for the future, recently partnering with Joby Aviation—the maker of electric air taxis—to provide travelers with a “first-of-its-kind arrangement” that removes the need for land shuttle services entirely. 

According to the airliner, the initial launch of the service will target customers in New York and Los Angeles. Passengers will simply have to reserve a seat on board Joby’s air taxis for a seamless experience to and from city airports.

Even better, this mode of air transport produces zero operating emissions, so you can feel better about hopping on board a short-range flight to your home rather than spend hours sitting in a jam on the expressway. 

Unfortunately, as per Robb Report, the electric aircraft isn’t expected to be certified till 2024, so this feature won’t be available just yet. Though there’s much to look forward to with Delta promising “a differentiated, premium experience” when it does launch. 

“This is a groundbreaking opportunity for Delta to deliver a time-saving, uniquely premium home-to-airport solution for customers in key markets we’ve been investing and innovating in for many years,” remarks Delta CEO Ed Bastian.
