For this year’s Los Angeles Fashion Week, there’s an unlikely new kid on the block: Delta Airlines.
The airliner recentlyannounced that it has partnered with actress Issa Rae for its first-ever travel-focused fashion collection, aptly titled ‘Runway Runway’, featuring several small businesses and their innovative designs.
Six up-and-comers showcased their work, including Oyster, Ember Niche Eyewear, Ponto Footwear, Ana Mero Swim, Cadence Capsule Systems, and Classic Six Capsule Wardrobes. All of them had the brief of creating an exclusive collection for travelers, by travelers.
The result? A specially-designed swimsuit that can be worn eight ways so you’ll never repeat a look on the beach, limited-edition sunglasses inspired by different landscapes, and athletic sweatsuit sets that can take anyone from an airline seat to their next appointment.
In addition, the show featured a timeless capsule wardrobe that transforms six staples into a whole week’s worth of outfits, an eco-friendly part-sneaker, part-dress shoe sans laces, and a recycled capsule kit that keeps everything from your earplugs to medication.
Rae said the campaign was more than just showcasing these travel-inspired collections. Instead, it hoped to elevate each of the designers’ stories, the comfort found in human connections, and “inspiration to be found in the adventures we embark on.”
