Meta Introduces Quest Pro Headset That Takes Remote Work To New Dimensions
Meta has just introduced the Quest Pro headset, which stands out in its ability to blur the lines of reality and virtuality.
The gear adopts a more goggle-like design, with big bulging bug eyes in the front. In addition, Meta is also introducing a curved cell battery which is situated on the back of the wearer’s head.
The placement might seem odd at first, but given that the new iteration of the headset is heavier than the last, this could give it a more balanced feel when placed on the head.
Its boosted LCD display allows for sharper visuals with 37% more pixels per inch as compared to the previous version.
The lenses within it are 40% thinner, allowing the wearer to view the room they are in at all times while in the digital world.
An external full-color RGB camera has been fitted onto the set, melding the user’s real-life environment with virtual reality, where 3D avatars can be seen hanging out in their living rooms.
And as the Quest Pro is geared more towards social hangouts and work functions, Meta has paired up with Microsoft to bring Teams to the digital world.
With the device, you can now attend meetings hosted on Teams in your complete avatar form. Microsoft’s other applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, will also be ready to use.
To make taking a meeting or chilling with friends even more realistic, an inward-facing camera can track the wearer’s facial expressions to display them as is on their avatars.
Pre-orders for the Meta Quest Pro have begun in 22 countries, and prices start at US$1,499. The devices will be shipped out on October 25.
