MSCHF Rolls Out ‘Medical Cast’ Boots So You Can Truly ‘Break A Leg’
Okay, so it does’t actually want you to break a leg. But it does want you to look like you did.
As it stands, the fashion world is a wild expanse of creativity and art that sometimes does not always make sense. Case in point: MSCHF’s latest boots that take inspiration from the medical field more than the realm of style.
The AC. 1 boots look more like something you’d find in a pharmacy than something an art studio created for real-life use. But, if Satan shoes and hijacking car keys are of any indication, you never know what you’ll get next with MSCHF.
The shoe has a hard outer shell that typically protects a patient’s foot or ankle. It is also padded on the inside and has two large adjustable straps. All in all, if you were walking down the street, you couldn’t tell if someone had broken their feet or was taking a stab at avant-garde fashion.
In terms of comfort, these work as everyday sneakers, with a traditional midsole and even an air pump for heel support. In this regard, you won’t have to trade comfort for the latest medic-chic kicks.
According to Vogue, chief creative officer Lukas Bentel first got the idea for the footwear in 2015—a year before the collective launched—after he saw someone on the streets with them. Ever since, the image has stuck with him.
With that, to make these even more special, the art collective has decided to sell them in-store, making this the first of its products you can go down and buy from one of its locations.
If you’re in the market for a medical upgrade to your look, the boots debut on October 19 and will set you back at US$450. So, while you may not have to break your ankles to get them, you might need to break the bank.
