Level Up Creative Inspiration With Industrial Design Ideas From A’ Design Award

Each year, the competition is judged by a rotation of influential jury members, including academics, design veterans, and prominent press members, ensuring that creatives of various experience levels have an equal chance of recognition.
One of the numerous fields that the A’ Design Award looks at is Good Industrial Design, which welcomes works from as far back as a decade ago from furniture designers, industrial designers, product engineers, design-focused brands, innovators, inventors, and global enterprises. The first round of scoring is free, and you’ll have the choice of advancing into the following stages with a nominal fee when your project is selected.
Laureates will receive an exclusive design award trophy, a certificate for Design Excellence, a lifelong license to use the A’ Industrial Design Awards logo, two tickets to the A’ Design Award Gala-Night, inclusion in the World Design Rankings, and be granted an exclusive interview that will be published on the Designer Interviews website, among many other perks.
A’ Design Award is accepting submissions for its 2022–2023 edition until February 28, 2023. DesignTAXI will then announce the results on April 15, 2023.

Sharing Joy Lounge Chair
This contemporary lounge chair is cushy for feline tushies too. It “can be shared and interacted with by pets… [with an] O-shaped element [that] can be freely transformed to form a tunnel for cats to pass through,” explains Zhe Gao. “Cat and owner can relax and meditate on the same chair… without disturbing each other’s space.”
The tunnel at the back of the seat is “consistent with cat behavior” of squeezing into small spaces and curling up into a ball, while the armrest also serves as a jumping platform.
Tetris Bookcase
“Just like Tetris, users can make their own DIY bookcase by matching different shapes and color blocks based on [their preferred] characteristics,” notes Fujun Wang. They can even remove the ‘blocks’ to be turned into individual storage compartments.
Seaview Lamp
As its name suggests, this lamp is inspired by seaside scenery. Not only that, but Keyan Jin was also drawn by the views of the sea in the morning and night. It so happens that the sun and moon are spherical by nature. “We think [the seaside is] a good feeling for lamps because it’s beautiful.”
Stoyka Sport Equipment
“Since physical fitness has become integral to our daily routines, the purpose behind the Stoyka aims to strike a balance in using living spaces as fitness studios,” explains Igor Dydykin, who has reimagined clunky gym equipment as “something natural and organic.”
“Stoyka is a power rack for the modern home designed to look like high-end furniture, merging the home gym with storage capabilities,” the designer elaborates. “The storage system is integrated into the power rack, which slides out from behind the power rack’s rear wall… [providing] enough storage space [for] the power rack’s barbells, round weighted plates, as well as rack accessories like support beams and spotter’s arms. It is equipped with reinforced racks, a crossbar, and removable wall bars.”
Karst Water Filtration Staircase
“Karst, a modular staircase designed for Governors Island in New York, is like a solutional cave for people to see and hear the flowing water, with a water-filtering system that brings the sensation of nature into the house,” shares Chi-Hao Chiang, who coined the setup after the Karst terrain, which utilizes caves as underground drainage systems. The staircase is suited for the indoors as well as for scattering around the island.
Framy Customizable Room Divider
“Completely customizable from any combination of 7 panels, this is a new type of room divider for effective use of limited space,” reveals Shinnosuke Hosoda. “Framy could be used as a clothing rack or a helpful organizer. It could also serve as a room divider for several people working from home. Framy can easily be folded up and stored when not in use. This unique piece of furniture adjusts to you and your lifestyle with infinite possibilities.”
SPH Smart Prosthetic Hand
“If one touches the smartphone screen with an artificial finger, the screen does not recognize the signal very well, and making any detailed control is extremely difficult. People occasionally drop their phones even with their real hands, but existing artificial arms only implement 60—80% of the function of the natural hand, which means… the risk of [dropping their device] increases,” ponders Young Jo In.
“This design resolves the physical problem which occurs when one uses a smartphone with an artificial hand. The smart device is attached to the prosthetic hand to eliminate the risk of dropping the device. The product allows the users to operate the device with the other free hand.”
Creaon Toy
Addressing children’s boredom and changing interests, Menglin Tian replaced plastic with wax crayons to make toy buildings that erode into unique forms of architecture. “When children draw with Creaon, they create different roofs that can become unique building blocks.” The concept challenges the notion that broken toys are damaged toys.
The New Bottle
“Inspired by the Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci, designers applied the 1/8 cap-to-body ratio in length to achieve a delicate balance of power and aesthetics,” describes Nio Life. The “attractive” design—at least in Da Vinci’s apparent view—encourages users to swap out disposable plastics for a more sustainable product.
Amplification of Sensation Chair
“The Han River runs through the center of Seoul and is also a place loved by citizens. This river is one of the few places to feel nature in this polluted city,” notes Eun Whan Cho. That’s why the Seoul Metropolitan Government chose this place to commission a thoughtful public installation. “This chair is made of discarded plastic pieces and also serves as a public sculpture,” the designer adds.
The seat encourages visitors to “think about environmental issues… while also allowing them to focus on the sense of perception of the surrounding environment in the city.”
Anycubic Photon Nex 3D Printer
This sci-fi-esque 3D printer is actually inspired by the sleeping quarters in Star Trek, divulge Xin Ouyang, Meizhao Zhang, and Yawei Li. The space-gray gadget also has a “fully automated feeding device design similar to an energy backpack,” arriving at an aesthetic “that crosses the galaxy.”
Allonge Feeding Bottle
Overwhelmed parents deserve “less in their busy lives,” details the Simba Sonison baby products design team. They’ve reconsidered the baby bottle to accompany the little ones’ milestones and have more long-term value.
A single bottle introduces “eight different roles… from breast milk storage to Baby’s water bottle,” the team adds. “You only need one bottle, and it could be your everything.”
Orpheus Exoskeletal Exercise Device
“The Orpheus is an exercise device designed for the International Space Station and future spacecraft,” describes Mehmet E. Ergül. The exoskeleton is lightweight and fairly compact so it utilizes what little room a space shuttle may have.
The suit is envisioned with software that takes down health stats and exercise data of astronauts, modifying its regimes to match its user and deliver various levels of resistance.
Mask Capsule
Having a face mask on isn’t the most comfortable experience, so Chunfeng Lin designed a version with a capsule that can “effectively relieve motion sickness, drowsiness, colds, and rhinitis,” as well as “refresh the mind” through natural herbs. “The capsule inhaler can be cleaned repeatedly or replaced,” says Lin.
Elite Smart Film
“Elite Smart Film can be applied in an extremely wide range of environments. First off, it allows users to freely adjust the transparency of windows in general living spaces… Its ability to block 100% of the UV rays is particularly important when it comes to the health of the residents or the maintenance of leather furniture,” shares Elite Smart Film Inc.
The material “is made by injecting liquid crystal polymers and conductive polymers between two transparent conductive films,” the company reveals. “It appears foggy when not energized, but through alternating current effects, the liquid crystal molecules inside will arrange neatly and the film will change from a foggy state into being transparent.” The film serves as a replacement for “power-consuming LCD screens… [and] can provide energy-saving and carbon-reduction benefits.”
